The Zhou Group develops strategies to control chemical reactivity in macromolecular systems. Our work focuses on using electricity as a programmable reagent to selectively activate strong chemical bonds in polymeric materials.
By integrating electrochemical control with mechanical and photochemical modes of activation, we study how chemical transformations can be directed in macromolecules with improved precision. These approaches provide ways to edit polymer structures, expand the range of accessible reactivity, and connect molecular-level transformations to material function, enabling the reconfiguration of macromolecular architectures across a broad range of material systems.
